Bespoke garden design for Ditchling homes and South Downs settings, shown here through a lower garden transformed with a boardwalk, summer house and an ocean of planting.
Our client wanted the lower part of their garden to be somewhere where they would love spending time.
After the summer house was built, we created a boardwalk that also served as a viewing platform stretching over an ocean of planting.
The walk to the summer house became an adventure, with texture, colour and movement replacing a plain lower garden.

This Ditchling garden makes the route to the summer house as important as the destination, using a boardwalk and layered planting to give the lower garden atmosphere.
The boardwalk gives practical access to the summer house while also lifting the visitor above the planting so the garden can be experienced from a new angle.
Layered planting adds colour, texture and vibrancy, making the lower garden feel like a place to explore rather than a space simply to pass through.
The old Ditchling page drew on the village's built heritage, dye plants and the farming history of Court Garden.
With more than 40 listed buildings, Ditchling has history on almost every corner and offers a strong sense of Sussex heritage. The old page connected that history with the importance of embedding local character into garden beds.
Ditchling Museum of Art and Craft has a small garden containing dye plants, used as a living plant library. It reflects how plants can be valued not only for beauty, but for use, craft, colour and learning.
Court Garden Vineyard also has a long farming history. The farm was known in Saxon times as the Manor of Ditchling Garden, later associated with the monks at Lewes Priory, and now sits on a south-facing slope beneath the South Downs.
