Bespoke garden design for East Grinstead homes and High Weald gardens, shown here through a Surrey garden where a hot tub was carefully hidden within English cottage-style planting.
Our clients wanted a hot tub in their garden. Our challenge was to create a design that made the hot tub as inconspicuous as possible while still retaining an English cottage feel.
After removing 20 tonnes of clay, we sunk the hot tub in a special concrete chamber.
Replacing a tired laurel hedge, we planted a row of mixed evergreen and deciduous shrubs, then designed the rest of the beds with English cottage flowers, climbers and bulbs. We used a hanging birch and a weeping cherry tree to add height and atmosphere.

This East Grinstead garden example shows how a strong practical feature can be absorbed into a softer, planted garden so it feels natural rather than dominant.
The hot tub was placed into a concrete chamber so it could be enjoyed without visually taking over the garden.
Mixed shrubs, climbers, bulbs, cottage flowers and small trees create height, softness and seasonal interest around the practical structure.
The old East Grinstead page included local history around Garden Wood, Standen House and the wider High Weald landscape.
Garden Wood in East Grinstead has a rich history. The land was once a hilly piece of farm and woodland with ponds, drainage gullies and links to Brook Mill, the Imberhorne estate and the beginnings of the River Medway.
The railway cutting for the East Grinstead to Three Bridges line divided Imberhorne Farm in the nineteenth century. By the late 1800s, the Blount family had developed the farmland into an estate covering more than 1,000 acres.
Nearby Standen House and Garden is an important Arts and Crafts property with hillside gardens, seasonal planting, mature trees, woodland walks and views into the wider High Weald landscape.
