Bespoke garden design for Horsham homes and new build gardens, shown here through modern planting, ornamental grasses and robust colour combinations.
This was a new build house garden: always a pleasure to start from scratch, though often frustrating waiting for builders to finish.
I wanted the planting to have a real modern twist of combinations and colour, with lots of ornamental grasses to soften the large square shapes of the house and maximise the wind effect.
For the back border we used robust but interesting plants, such as Berberis Orange Rocket next to Black Adder Phormium and dwarf eucalyptus. Cortaderia richardii will rise gracefully through this planting.
Start Your ProjectThis Horsham garden uses grasses, colour and robust planting to soften a new build house while keeping a modern, confident feel.
A new build garden gives the design a clean starting point, allowing the planting and layout to respond directly to the architecture and open space.
Ornamental grasses help soften the large square shapes of the house and make the most of wind movement, while strong plant combinations keep the borders interesting.
The old Horsham page included local garden heritage from Leonardslee, Horsham in Bloom and the Garden of Remembrance.
Leonardslee Lakes and Gardens reopened in 2019 after a major restoration. Its Grade I listed landscape covers parkland, lawns, woodland and lakes, with rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias, magnolias, bluebells and an ornamental rock garden.
Horsham in Bloom works with local volunteers on floral displays, environmental and horticultural projects. Its committee helped create popular local attractions including the dragon's maze in Horsham Park and the Human Nature Garden.
The Garden of Remembrance near St Mary's Church and the river has been an important public green space in Horsham for nearly a century, founded in memory of those who died in the First World War.

It starts with a conversation and, where useful, a site visit. Andrew listens to how you use the garden, what is not working, what you love, and what level of design support you need before recommending the next step.
Yes. Depending on the project, Andrew can provide a full design service covering ideas, layout, planting, materials, detailed drawings and guidance through the build so the finished garden follows the design intent.
Tell Andrew what you are working with and what you would like your garden to become. A conversation is the best place to start.
