Bespoke garden design for Storrington homes and South Downs gardens, shown here through a sloping lawn transformed into interlocked garden spaces, yew structure and flower borders.
This garden was originally a lawn that sloped towards the house and down into the left corner.
We created a series of flat lawn spaces, bounded by yew, with each interlocked space creating a walkway through the entire garden and each space having flower borders.
We used small trees like Amelanchier, Sorbus and crab apple to give the garden natural height and link it with the great oak trees at the back of the garden.
Start Your ProjectThis Storrington garden uses yew, level changes, lawns, borders and small trees to turn a sloping lawn into a sequence of connected garden spaces.
The design breaks the slope into flatter, more comfortable lawn spaces, so the garden becomes easier to move through and more inviting to use.
Yew gives the layout definition, while Amelanchier, Sorbus and crab apple add natural height and help connect the designed garden with the mature oaks beyond.
The old Storrington page linked the town with the South Downs, Parham House and local horticultural traditions.
Storrington lies on the northern edge of the South Downs, with half of the parish inside the South Downs National Park. It is also close to the midpoint of the South Downs Way.
Parham House and Gardens, just outside Storrington, include an Elizabethan stone house, fountain court, lake, deer park, pleasure grounds, walled garden, rose garden, cut flower garden, orchard and greenhouse.
Storrington Horticultural Society was established in 1864, making it one of the earliest recorded village garden societies still in existence. Local planting projects, including crocuses around the Memorial Pond, also show the town's continuing garden culture.
