How to implement Layered Planting:
Layered planting involves a large amount of planning, to ensure a wide variety of plant heights and species arranged in the best way possible.
This means many considerations need to be taken into account:
- Sunlight requirements. Taller plants shouldn’t over-shade sun-loving, smaller plants
- Pairing plants. Some plants are beneficial to others directly, for example basil is great to be planted in front of taller plants, attracting insects that act as pest control.
- Space and resources. Careful research is advised to see how much space and resources a specific plant species will require, and whether this is fair to the surrounding plants.
- Blooming times. Selecting plants that have staggered blooming times will mean your garden will experience blooming plants for a much longer time throughout the year.
