Slime management:
Blanket Weed/ Angel Tresses (also often known as ‘green slime’) can be bad for ponds, not only looking unappealing, but it can also cause chemical imbalances and lower oxygen levels (therefore depriving other plants).
To try and avoid it in the first place, topping the pond up with rainwater rather than tap water can avoid the addition of more nitrates and other feeding chemicals for the slime.
Other easy slime management involves removing any Autumn leaves from the pond, or dead pond plants so they don’t decompose into slime.
However, if the growth becomes excessive, manual removal may be necessary using a pond net or rake to skim the surface of any slime.
