STORRINGTON

Storrington lies on the northern edge of the South Downs. Half of the parish is within the South Downs National Park and Storrington is the closest town to the midpoint of the South Downs Way.

Parham House and Gardens are located just outside Storrington in Pulborough.  The Elizabethan stone house, started in 1577, with an elegant fountain court, a lake and a deer park. It was made on the site of a former monastery and some of the oaks date from that time. The old kitchen garden now contains colour-themed herbaceous borders, as well as vegetables. The Gardens at Parham consist of seven acres of Pleasure Grounds, laid out in the 18th century, with a lake, spring bulbs, a brick and turf maze and many specimen trees. The old four-acre Walled Garden contains romantic wide herbaceous borders, a rose garden, a cut flower garden, a vegetable garden, an orchard and a 1920s Wendy House. A splendid Greenhouse, also dating from the 1920s, has a fine display of pelargoniums and other tender plants. Glorious Gardens incorporate the feel of surrounding historic houses and gardens into their garden designs.

The Storrington Horticultural Society was established in 1864, it is one of the earliest recorded village garden societies that still exists. Glorious Gardens understand that many clients take a real interest in the gardening so they always ensure that the client is very involved in the designs of the garden.

Members of Storrington & Pulborough District Rotary Club planted the 4000 crocuses around Storrington Memorial Pond to act as an annual reminder of the campaign while spreading some springtime joy.

Purple has become a symbolic colour in the global Rotary campaign to eradicate polio, inspired by the colour of the dye painted on the little finger of a child to signify they have received a potentially life-saving polio vaccine.

Rotary club president Pippa Davies said: “We were delighted to plant these purple symbols of the polio campaign at Storrington Memorial Pond and to play our part in the continuing global efforts to eradicate the disease.”

Rotary has been working to eradicate polio for more than 35 years and the goal of ridding the world of this disease is closer than ever. As a founding partner of the Global Polio Eradication Initiative, Rotary has reduced polio cases by 99.9 percent since the first project to vaccinate children in the Philippines in 1979. Glorious Gardens tailors their garden designs to the clients preferences and individual tastes.
