Why thin trees?

After 15-20 years, trees can be thinned to open up dense woodland which allows more light onto the woodland floor. This increases the variety and growth of woodland trees, shrubs and flora, creating a valuable habitat for wildlife. Thinning trees is beneficial for your woodland’s natural ecology. However, too much space could cause wind damage so Glorious Woodlands will make sure the correct thinning process is undertaken. The canopy will indicate how much sunlight is reaching your woodland and help us guide you to whether thinning is necessary.

What does thinning trees involve?

Glorious Woodlands will analyse your woodland and identify the best growing trees. Removing these trees competition will allow the best trees to continue developing their shape and resilience.

Trees will naturally thin over time but can be manually thinned too, manually thinning will require access for equipment and professionals.

The thinning process is repeated on a 5 to 8 year cycle which benefits your woodland’s natural ecology.
