Tongdean
My clients wanted a feast of colour and shapes. We designed the shape of lawn to look dynamic especially from the upstairs bedroom and tapered the lawn away to give a sense of mystery. My clients wanted the plants designed with a purple, pink and silver planting scheme so we used Lamb’s Ear, Verbena Rigida and Salvia Caradonna.
The garden has North, South and East facing aspects so we choose plants that had similar leaf shape to link the garden together even those the plants were different.
In the woodland area we used Selenium, Choysia and Foxgloves.
In the front of the house we designed a whole sword of the evergreen ornamental grass, Sesleria Autumnalis with Agapanthas poking their bright blue flower heads above the swaying grass. This mass planting softens the front of the house. A multi-stemmed Amelanchier gives the area height and mood.
