Your woodland through the seasons
Spring
In early spring, the rising temperatures mean your morning woodland walk will burst with colour while a wonderful dawn chorus delights the senses. The rising temperatures invites pollinators such as bees to your woodland. Flowering plants such as primroses, wood sorrel and wood anemones blossom first. As the canopy begins to close, the second burst of colourful flowering begins with more shade tolerant species such as bluebell. Also during Spring, your food forest is coming to life where you can try herbs and other edible plants.
Summer
Summer is full of lush green foliage dappled with sunlight from the canopy. The longer days allow you to enjoy your woodland for longer making it a sociable place to enjoy time with family and friends. Also, camping overnight is fun for all ages and means you can see even more wildlife.
Wildflower meadows are especially spectacular during summer as they burst with colour, wonderful smells and the sounds of buzzing pollinators.
Autumn
While you might have to put a few more layers on to enjoy your woodland in autumn, the array of colours from bright green evergreens to golden broadleaves will create a delightful walk.
Autumn is also a time to enjoy forest foods such as blackberries, apples and chestnuts.
The crisp autumn mornings are the perfect time to ignite your senses and enjoy a moment to yourself.
Similarly, the crunch of leaves as you take an evening walk through your woodland is a wonderful break from modern life.
Winter
A snowy woodland is an extraordinary winter wonderland, but you don’t need snow to enjoy your woodland in winter. The frosty woodland floor and bare trees allows you to be enriched with wildlife. The snowdrops, mistletoe and ivy are seasonal favourites to enjoy at this magical time of year.
To create variation and form across the seasons, Glorious Woodlands will place birch and alder together. This offers a subtle change throughout winter from dark reds to dark greens and delivers an elegant woodland.
Glorious Woodlands will take into account the existing trees, this provides guidance on which trees will succeed. A stunning woodland will be created from a simple, natural design.
